One gate, no stiles.Features/talking points: The initially the Beacons Way is a classic example of a hollow way used by drovers. The name “Rhongyr” occurs three times on the route (Allt Rhongyr, Rhongyr Uchaf and Rhongyr Isaf) and means drove road end. At Pont Offeiriad and Pentwyn there are “corners that go straight on”. At Pentwyn there is a stand of Scots pines behind a wall – a classic example of a drovers’ signpost (usually three pines) – there are groups of pines along the way that might have also been droving related.
