About the Event
Come and learn how to cast pewter items using cuttlefish and clay. You will be involved with lighting the fire and we will try both methods for casting pewter. With the cuttlefish you start by making a mold by engraving and carving into it. We will also look at using clay to create imprints with natural items like acorns or shells. Pewter will be heated and melted in a crucible, before being poured into your molds. Once cool we will look at using different tools including files, hacksaws and sandpaper to finish you casted items. These might be small models or pendants we can turn into necklaces. If you have any small items you want to try and cast please bring them along.   Although we will mostly be under cover, we will be outside with a fire at times. Please wear suitable outdoor clothing, warm layers, hats, gloves etc to make sure you keep warm. Please wear old (non dangly) clothes, covered toe shoes (no sandals) & little or no jewellry.  No prior experience not needed, but you must have good mobility in hands.  Hot refreshments will be available throughout the workshop. Bring a packed lunch and snacks, or buy lunch from the café.   Times 10.30am – 3pm (lunch approx. 12 - 1pm).   Meeting place – in front of Craig Y Nos Café.  These will be hosted by Martyn Griffiths from In Our Element (www.inourelement.org.uk)
