About the Event

Create a Community Sculpture & Make a Heritage Tile’

‘Ever wanted to be a part of a team designing a community sculpture & then fashion the clay to create the model for the final Sculpture?

join internationally renowned sculptor, Rebecca Buck at this workshop at St Elvan’s, Aberdare and get involved with The Curvy Bench Project for Craig y Nos Country Park.

Big enough to provide Covid-safe seating to share, in a fun shape that encourages playfulness and compliments it’s location, this heavy-duty bench will have internal hollows to provide dry, secure wild-life homes and be covered in wonderful tiles hand-made by all sorts of local people describing their favourite history and heritage sites and features.

It will provide an instantly recognisable meeting place and the lively, enchanting variety of tiles will be a great source for easy chatting between the fabulous variety of people that visit Craig y Nos Country Park.

The Tile- Making Workshops will be taken to a range of groups, Open Days and Events. Claywork is fun and popular so it’s a great way to draw new people into the wider project at Craig y Nos.

Anyone with especial interest in making larger, more detailed and demanding Feature Tiles will be given the instruction, materials and support they need. And those who find working in clay excites and engrosses them will be encouraged to join The Resurgence sculpture Team.

Notes will be taken from the interesting conversations that always spring up when people are making parts of a common project.

The notes will go towards designing The Resurgence public sculpture to be placed on the woodland walk where a historic spring enters the Park
